Humble's new bundle includes original Baldur's gate, Pathfinder and Warhammer: 40K: Rogue Trader.

Good news! You can do something fun in September! You should do it all. The entire month. What's that? You already had plans? It's a pity. You'll have to let them go. You've got over 650 hours of RPGs to play.

If you buy the Beamdog and Owlcat RPG Masters bundle at Humble, you will. For $35 (PS27), get eight RPGs, plus a bunch of extras in a bundle that includes:

  • Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader
  • Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous plus its season passes
  • Pathfinder: Kingmaker Enhanced Edition (plus its Season Pass)
  • Neverwinter Nights: Complete Adventures Enhanced Edition
  • Baldur's gate 2 Enhanced Edition
  • Baldur's Gate 1, Enhanced Edition
  • Planescape Torment Enhanced edition
  • Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition

You can get Rogue Trader for $15 (PS11.60). This might be a good move. Jody Macgregor, our own reviewer, gave it a 59% rating in his Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader Review, criticizing its bugs and messy rules. It's been updated a few times since then, and currently has a rating of 77% "Mostly Positive" on Steam.

According to How Long To Beat a "Main Story + Extras" playthrough (without DLC) of these games will take you about 650 hours, or 27 days. It would be a long 27 days, people. Three of these games, Baldur's Gate 1, 2 and Planescape, are all-time classics. If you're among the many, many who recently got into the series through BG3, then you owe yourself the opportunity to experience the originals.

These games are different, yes. They're old. But they're still among my favourites: A single epic RPG story that spans two games (and their two expansions), in which you go from being a level 1 runt escaping packs of gibberlings, to a titan who battles gods and devils.

Planescape is Disco Elysium, before Disco Elysium. It's a profoundly weird journey into the self, where you play as a man without memory, cursed to an undeath life. It's a story that is often copied, but rarely surpassed.

The rest of the games aren't as classic, but they have their own devoted fans. PCG's Ted Litchfield would report me to HR if he didn't mention the importance of Neverwinter Nights to his own RPG-loving journey. Meanwhile, I haven't played Wrath of the Righteous yet as I've promised him for years.
