Swen Vincke, Larian's boss, revealed at the end of a PAX panel that looked back on the development of Baldur's Gate 3 and its reception that the highly anticipated Patch 7 would finally arrive next Monday after months of teasers.
Patch 7 was first announced in April. The most notable additions include official mod support and revamped evil endings. Unlike Divinity Original Sin 2, BG3 won't have a full campaign building toolset, but the tools and support for BG3 will make it easier to create and implement custom classes, UI components, spells and QoL fixes. The official tools should also make it less likely for future patches to mess up your mods and modded saves. Larian has stated that it is almost, but not yet finished tweaking BG3. Patch 7 will definitely do that, at least until mod author's catch up. So be on the lookout for this.
The evil endings will be extended cutscenes that will make the most vile of bastards shiver, to compensate for their lack of a happy-go-lucky party. Larian teased snippets from two main variations: a Dark Urge version and a non-Dark Urge variant with slight variations to the non-Durge bad ending for other Origin characters. The default evil ending has a classico feel, similar to Knights of the Old Republic. That's not necessarily a bad thing. The protagonist takes over all the schlubs to create their own evil kingdom, not-Mind Flayer. I love the clip Larian showed, where a schlub imagines they are just picking apples while in reality, they are a psychic slave. It reminds me in a strange way of Meet the Pyro.
The Dark Urge ending is gnarly, with previews showing default albino Dragonborn Durge slaying their companions, and wandering around a meaty, splattered afterscape under a dimmed sun. Think of The Eclipse from Berserk, or Elden Ring's Frenzied flame ending. It's not as if the game didn't warn you: "At Night, You Dream of a Dead World," reads a journal entry in the early game for the Durge personal quest. "Lakes filled with gall, pulsating piles of expired skin. You are the only living thing. "When the red sun burns off, you drive the final dagger into your heart."
The partial patch notes, as well scuttlebutt from playtesters in the BG3 subreddit indicate that there will be plenty of content for non-omnicidal gamers as well. The update will include continued QoL improvements, increased reactivity in the game and some major changes to Alfira.
I started a new run in Honour mode a few days ago. I lost my first run at 80 hours earlier this year and was itching to get going again. I've already gotten to the middle of Act 2 within 45 hours. I hope I don't go any further before Patch 7 is released. Larian hasn't given a specific date for the release of previous patches. Instead, they will likely implement it in the next few days.
