Black Ops 6 has outsold Call of Duty last year, even though it is on Game Pass. This probably tells you about how Modern Warfare 3 did.

It's no surprise that the latest Call of Duty has been a hit. Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO, announced today that Black Ops 6 was not only a success, but also the "biggest Call of Duty launch ever", setting a record for day one players.

Nadella is settling in nicely as the new Call of Duty overlord. Declaring that this year's Call of Duty was the biggest Call of Duty ever made is classic Activision. Activison's former stewards were always able to find a metric in which CoD excelled, even when the game was clearly having a bad year. Black Ops 6 is the first Call of Duty game to launch on Game Pass. It would have been more newsworthy if wasn't the most played on release day.

Nadella mentioned that sales of PlayStation and Steam were up 60% compared to last year. This is a positive sign for the health of the series, but I wonder if it speaks more to last year's Modern Warfare 3's failure.

Call of Duty X shared engagement records on social media (again, actual figures were not included). Black Ops 6's three-day launch weekend saw the most hours played and matches played ever in the series' history. This is consistent with the record for total players. Microsoft's subscription-based service, Game Pass, is also benefiting from the launch of the biggest game every year. Nadella said that BO6 was a major contributor to the highest number of subscribers added in a single day.

The Black Ops 6 review will be completed soon, but I can already tell you that the Zombies mode is a lot of fun. Omnimovement has also won me over as a boots-on-the ground player.
