Call of Duty fans are a devoted bunch. It took only 48 hours for Black Ops players to realize that some of the 6v6 multiplayer map points of interest were actually taken from what will likely be the next Warzone maps arriving in Season 1.
It's large, it's a green color, and it has very little detail. Welcome to Avalon, probably:
The blurry textures are not very impressive, but you shouldn't worry about them. You can only fly over Avalon by creating a match in the "CoD Caster role" on one of the Avalon maps (as far I know, this is Redcard, Lowtown and maybe Skyline), and freecamming out of the map boundaries. The game renders only the 6v6 map with full detail. Everything else looks like a mid budget PS1 game.
It's beautiful to see the map geometry reduced to its essentials. I godmoded Avalon and took some postcard photos of my favorite locations, some of which didn't yet have names (so I invented some):
Hotel Blur
Skrunkle Pier
Three Orb Gorge
Lowtown (Wrinkly).
Microsoft Flight Sim
Blurderburg
Not Landing Here
Bridge
Golf War
Flying outside of Redcard, you can see entire towns and landmarks. You'll even find a low-res Lowtown. This map is clearly a Warzone one, as there's no need for all this far-off stuff if it doesn't serve a larger purpose. It's a pretty big one too: it takes more than a minute to cross the thing.
Avalon will be the primary Warzone Map for at least six months, even though Activision won't be able to announce it until next month. It's the prettiest map the series has released since Al Mazrah. However, I think some players will be disappointed that we won't get the remastered version Verdansk before spring 2025.
