The new patch notes for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 reveal that aim assistance will be'much less effective at point blank range.'

Activision has released a patch note for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 that includes both small tweaks and more substantial changes.

Activision says, "We shared with you some key areas where the team focused between our Beta and launch of the game." Today, we have some new details and a recap on what you can expect if you jump in to the game this week.

Players will be able to unlock and customize 33 weapons when the game launches. Activision has worked on balancing these weapons during the beta phase, but there is still some work to be done. The changes include improved speeds for pistols and dedicated melee weapons, a slight increase in weapon butt attack speeds, adjustments to sway and bob, as well as improvements to the overall weapon motion. The most significant change to weapons is the update to aim assistance.

Activision explains that "in the Multiplayer beta we tested a new change which disabled aim assistance at close ranges." "While we thought this was an improvement, we felt it was jarring to cross the close-range threshold. We've changed our approach and linearly interpolated aim assist strength. This means that the aim assist will be weaker at close ranges, and gradually increase to a short distance. We will continue to monitor data and player feedback."

Most players agree this change is a good one: "Good Change," says one player. "I like that it is weaker up close. As they said, having it completely off did not feel right. Even as controller player vs. controller. It will be more skill-based now in those close-range battles."

Some players are still against any form of aim assistance in Call of Duty. They don't want it or believe it has gotten worse over time. Another player said, "I would like less overall aim assist as a console gamer." "It feels so much easier to aim in CoD today compared to older games, but that could be a placebo."

This question was answered a few years ago. YouTuber TheXclusiveAce created a video to see if aim assist in Call of Duty has improved over the years.

TheXclusiveAce states that "the aim assist ranges in Modern Warfare 2 have increased by 100% objectively, and this has carried over to a certain degree to Cold War and Vanguard." When we look at the strength of the 10 metre aim assist in these games, it doesn't seem like there has been a huge change when it comes to either the slowdown or rotational aim assistance. Infinite Warfare was the only game that had a weaker rotational aim assistance.

It's unlikely that Activision would go overboard to improve aim assist, no matter how many tweaks it receives. I'm more concerned about becoming a human shield or hunting someone who has perfected the chaos of omnimovement.
