Vice presidential candidate Tim Walz dusts of his controller to stream Crazy Taxi via Twitch. 'The Republicans are going to accuse me that I never had a Dreamcast, or something.'

Tim Walz, running mate to Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris appeared on the Twitch channel run by Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, today. The two primarily talked about the upcoming elections, but also played Madden NFL '25, Walz's favorite game, and Crazy Taxi.

"You can choose these characters, and I found out--this is probably the coolest thing that's happened to me-there's an me character in there," Walz said when he booted up Crazy Taxi. He was presumably referring to Edward La Barbera’s mod to include the VP candidate into the game.

Walz, though clearly a bit rusty at times, put in a good performance when he took on a few passengers. He was able to make good time with his first passenger but he failed to land properly, overshooting the stop. "I'm terrible. I don't understand the Xbox controllers," he said. We've all seen Controller Johns in their best light, but let's face it, we have. Walz said that he preferred the slapstick chaos in Crazy Taxi to something more realistically violent, like Grand Theft Auto. "I'm a New York taxi driver: I'm going the wrong direction," he joked to Ocasio Cortez.

"It's sort of retro, right?" He then asked Ocasio Cortez, giving me flashbacks of every time I have tried to show someone old games I enjoy. Walz also encouraged viewers to get their own copy of Crazy Taxi, saying "If you don't have it, people, go and get this game, it is really good."

Walz also recalled his first Dreamcast and the game he bought back then: "It's the first time that I had a job, I was an adult, and I had money." I was married, and my wife wasn't really on board. He brought the system into his office when his wife asked him if he could get it out of his house. It seems that it was misplaced over the years. Walz joked about how its hazy history might come back to haunt him during the election. "The Republicans will accuse of me not having a Dreamcast, or something."
