FromSoftware's Hidetaka Miyazaki said the studio does not 'have any plans to develop Elden Ring 2", but that it doesn't mean that the 'Elden Ring IP is over'

The beast is still hungry, even though Shadow of the Erdtree was only released in June. The beast is us and we are hungry for more Elden Ring. IGN Japan reported that during the PlayStation Partner Awards held in Japan, Hidetaka miyazaki was asked about the possibility of a sequel to Elden Ring, even though we knew Shadow of the Erdtree was the only expansion. What about a sequel, though?

It's not hard to guess that he would not just announce a sequel at a awards show. Miyazaki stated that "we don't have any specific plans to develop Elden Ring 2". There's a huge difference between not having specific plans and saying that it will never happen.

FromSoftware did not want to dilute Elden Ring's story by releasing it in pieces through multiple expansions. However, that does not prevent the studio from telling brand new stories within this setting. It's good news because the setting is fantastic. Miyazaki clarified that his answer did not mean to imply that Elden Ring had reached the end of its line. It could still have an future.

"I want to convey the fact that we do not deny the possibility of developing Elden Ring IP someday," he said. It's a bit vague. Technically, the phrase "developing IP" does not even refer to a videogame. Miyazaki had previously discussed how Elden Ring might be adapted into a film or TV show as long as FromSoftware found a “strong partner”.

I'll be honest. I'm not sure I'd be all that interested in a big screen or small screen adaptation. Elden Ring's approach would not translate well to a large or small screen, and the videogame is what makes it so brilliant. What's the point of spending two hours watching a bunch a weirdos spouting gibberish? I can do it in the pub.

In that light, I hope to see a new Elden Ring title, eventually. Though not likely for a while, even though FromSoftware released Shadow of the Erdtree extremely quickly.
