Dead Island gets a new coop horde game mode: "It's pure, survival-based gameplay that's not for those who are weak of heart."
Dambuster Studios announced that alongside the Dead Island 2 Ultimate Edition, which includes both story expansions as well as some new stuff, a "massive beastly" free update will also introduce a horde-mode for everyone.
In a blog, Dambuster Studios explains that you'll be getting Neighborhood Watch - a brutal horde mode in which you'll defend your frat home in the Venice canals. "Solo or co-op is pure survival, and it's not for those who are weak-hearted."
I didn't enjoy Dead Island 2 in 2023. I thought that some of boss fights in Dead Island 2 were poorly scaled and repetitive. The gore system was also not very impressive for a zombie-game. But I would never turn down a horde game. These modes are what I enjoy in zombie games. Whether it's running through hordes in Left 4 Dead 2 to face them head-on in World War Z, or battling them in a horde mode in Left 4 Dead 2.
But this isn’t the only new feature that will be added in patch 6. New Game Plus has finally arrived and will include additional zombie breeds, an increased level cap, and more skill slots. The blog post states that "it's going to be tougher, nastier, and a complete massacre."
The Ultimate Edition also brings a lot of new content to Dead Island 2. However, this won't come free unless you already own the Gold Edition. In that case, you will get an automatic upgrade at no additional cost.
The blog post states that "The Ultimate Edition gives you access to the Zompocalypse." "We've packed it with everything you need - two story-driven DLCs - Haus and SoLA - plus a full array of weapon packs and Skins to help you tear the undead in style." The Ultimate Edition includes six character packs, five weapon packs and two new modes. It also includes two story expansions.
One of the story extensions, called Haus, lasts about three hours and places your character in the middle a cult complex in Malibu, full of rich elites with fashionable zombies. Then, there's SoLA Festival which introduces a new zombie called the Whipper and is set in a music festival with 30,000 attendees who became infected but no one was bitten. Both expansions add a little extra fun to the game, but are worth checking out if you liked Dead Island 2 and want more gory humor.
