Destiny 2's bug caused a niche exotic to remove raid bosses within seconds. Of course, it was already disabled.

The Destiny 2 meta damage is fragile, and it's at the mercy of encounter design and balance. The game is a lot more fun with a good one-shot super and a grenade launcher, but the real sickos do unholy things like weapon switches, armor hotswaps, and niche loadouts. For a short time yesterday, the meta-loadout was solved thanks to a Warlock rare that almost nobody uses.

A bug in the Ballidorse Wrathweavers, an exotic armour that increases the damage of Winter's Wrath's super ability, caused raid bosses fall over within seconds. You can watch a video below of six Warlocks taking on a variety of raid and dungeons bosses. Few of them survive.

It's not clear why this happens. Balidorse does increase the shatter damage, but that super's default damage is... not worth mentioning. Balidorse is the forgotten stepchild in Warlock Stasis build--you can get more mileage from the neutral game of the subclass, boosted by exotics such as Osmiomancy gloves or the new Rime Coat Rainment. Balidorse received a buff in a patch on Tuesday, which is likely what led to this glitch. The fact that it took almost a week to discover the bug shows how neglected it was.

Something is clearly wrong when combined together with another source of damage. Aztecross's testing shows that Winter's Wrath, when combined with a grenade thrown by someone running Song of Flame causes the latter to break damage scale. The bug was most effective when used with a weapon that deals damage over time, such as Anarchy. You're more prone to hitting the big numbers when there's a constant possibility of a simultaneous source of damage. This also seems to make it easier to replicate in a single run, although the more reliable method is multiple people running the exact same kit.

Bungie was quick to respond when a DPS bug shook the damage meta. This isn't a first. Bungie Help tweeted that Ballidorse Wrathweavers were disabled until a patch could be released. The dream is over and you can now return the exotic to your vault.

Naturally the community is disappointed--although not surprised--that the fun came to an end so quickly. The bugs that seem to have been prevalent in this episode are what's left as a sting. Golden Gun Hunters who are running Celestial Nighthawk have also benefited from super bugs. Sentinel Titans have increased super melee damages. It's rare that bugs work in a player’s favor. Both are less extreme than Warlock's example, so both can stay until the December patch.

Things are looking pretty shaky, more generally. The list of known issues is growing. It includes everything from minor UI bugs to blocked quest progression to the fact that Hunter tether is still enabled in the newest dungeon, because it causes the second boss encounter crash. It's difficult not to draw a connection between the current stability and the multiple rounds layoffs that Destiny 2's Development Team has experienced over the past year.
