Epic Games says the bug that caused Fortnite's Save the World XP to be drastically reduced is the cause.

Epic Games has confirmed that a recent Fortnite Save the World change that drastically reduced the amount of XP players can earn was a bug. The issue is now being fixed.

Yesterday, players discovered that Epic has changed the XP limit on Save the World - the original Fortnite PvE game. Fortnite Save the World has been largely forgotten about, and Fortnite Battle Royale has taken over its place. However, players can still earn Fortnite progress by using it. According to Forbes, players used to be able earn multiple levels a day by playing Save the World. However, with the launch of Chapter 6 Season 1 this was reduced to nine levels a week.

The Fortnite community did not like this. The Fortnite subreddit was flooded with threads that were critical of the new cap, complaining about how it unfairly impedes their progress. Many thought the change was part and parcel of a larger push to monetize Fortnite Battle Pass. They were also upset that the cap was imposed without any warning. Epic had not announced the new XP limit before it went live.

It has now said that the Save the World XP bug is a software glitch. Epic posted to X that they were aware of a bug where Save The World players are earning less XP after a certain threshold has been reached. "We are working to fix this issue and will let you all know when the fix is available."

It seems that this was part of a larger Fortnite problem, as XP in Lego Fortnite was also disabled due to a problem with the way it was distributed. The Lego Fortnite Status Twitter account stated that all XP earned during the time that awards were disabled would be granted before the current Lego Pass ends.

All of this could have been a result of a change in Fortnite's XP rewards system announced in October. As of December 1, the regular battle pass and the music pass share the same reward tracks. They also advance with XP from any Fortnite game except Save the World. The change hasn't been well received by all players, who claim that the merging of daily quests has reduced the amount of XP available to them and forced them into game modes they don't like. But at least, it's not a glitch.
