Yoshi-P, the director of FF14, apologizes to Monster Hunter Wilds after fans recreated him. I feel that he is being a bit harsh on himself.

Naoki Yoshida, also known as Yoshi-P, is the director of Final Fantasy 14 and other projects at Square Enix. He also directs the 16th entry in the series. He's also sort of in Monster Hunter Wilds. Fans recreated Yoshi in the character creator of the game during the beta test last week.

During a live letter for Patch 7.1 Crossroads, Yoshi was altered to this new development. He took it on the chin as anyone would take it after being painstakingly reproduced in a game by a stranger. (As spotted by aitaikimochi and translated by X).

"Congratulations for being in Monster Hunter?" What does it mean? The game developer was a little confused. He added, after being explained what it meant: "I haven’t checked social media." They made me into a fictional character, but i look tired? I must apologize to the Monster Hunter Team for my unseemly appearance then."

I think he's being a bit down on himself. He's surprisingly sprightly for a man in his fifties who is still directing massive gaming projects on a full-time basis. I mean, have you heard the stories of how, during FF14's disastrous 1.0 launch, he had everything from meetings to toilet breaks listed out on a large spreadsheet to get things done? He could have taken a few more naps but the fact that he can attend so many events is astounding. I interviewed him at Gamescom and I can confirm that I looked much more tired after two days on my feet, eating bratwurst.

I also think that it's the fact that no one looks good when they are plugged into a Character Creator. Even trying to create your fantasy adventurer's platonic ideal is a challenge. Let alone trying to capture the nuances of an actual human being that wasn't created to be shipped with Astarion. It's not in a socially acceptable way. If you want to recreate me and make my character kiss someone, please choose either Gale or Karlach. I don't care.

If I'm being honest, I can understand why Yoshi-P feels tired. Anyone would have lost years of their life after releasing an expansion. Then, everyone would start to crave a two-headed Lizard like moths attracted to a disastrous fire. The director's experience is very important.
