After three years, the final major update to the monster-huge RPG Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous will revamp its end-game abilities for the dragon gods to finally live up the hype
Owlcat Games revealed the final major update for Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. It will be a massive overhaul of the Gold Dragon Mythic Path. Owlcat has confirmed that WotR will see minor updates, bug fixes and other content in the near future. However, this major patch is the last addition of content to the game.
If Baldur's Gate 3 was , theCRPG for the 2020s, WotR would be its crustier, zanier relative for the real role-playing sickos. Wrath of the Righteous faithfully adapts Pathfinder 1E into an 80-hour-long (now easily over 100 hours with DLC), level 1-20 adventure. It has everything I'm looking for in a beefy, Baldur's Gate 2 style RPG: Memorable characters with their own quests, romances, dozens of class and build options, including oddballs such as praying mantis Priests, axe throwers, and multiple flavors of mount cavalry, and a There are archetypes such as butterfly freedom fighters, classico angels, and even a walking, sentient locust swarm for bad guys.
This update is for the Gold Dragon, one of the less-loved Mythic Paths. On paper, it sounds like a blast: the ability to transform yourself into an ancient wyrm and embrace the power of ancient wyrms. Gold Dragons, however, had less story content, were weaker than other paths and only became available at the end of the game.
Now Gold Dragons will get their due. They'll get a new in-game design and improved spell effects, as well as a special look for "corrupted Gold Dragon" players. They also get a bunch of buffs and abilities:
- Mythic spells such as the ability to summon an army of dragons (dragons calling dragons, what will they think of next?)
- Enhance breath weapon attacks by adding the ability to heal allies, or add alternate damage types.
- The damage output has been improved and the ability to choose abilities is now available earlier.
Gold Dragons will have a new story beat, improved reactivity and unique endings that are exclusive to this path. The two new draconic religious options are available to players at character creation. This will provide more story content leading into the Mythic Path in late-game.
Wrath of the Righteous was already a game that I felt had improved greatly since its launch in 2022 when I played it for the first time. Owlcat has continued to improve the massive RPG since then. It's almost final, and it will be released soon (following a massive epilogue DLC). I might want to play it again, at least when I have 100 hours spare.
