The best-named video game of all time almost could've had a different name because some of its creators hated the pun.

If you're ready to debate whether or not Satisfactory is the "best-named" game ever, I'm going suggest that you haven't played it because its name is perfectly embodied. It's a pun that you can write on a board and cause a room to groan because everyone wants to laugh but also knows that they won't be able to top it. The developers at Coffee Stain weren't unanimous when they first started working on Satisfactory. It was actually a bit of a battle.

In a recent PC Gamer interview, community manager Snutt Troeptow stated: "This was before my time at Coffee Stain. But I know the story." "When we brainstormed, we had a lot of ideas and names. Some people stuck with the name Satisfactory. "Some people hated the name."

The defenders said that Satisfactory is just too perfect of a name. It explains the factory-building concept in the title itself! Others were concerned that it would be interpreted as "adequate" and "okay", rather than something positive. Eventually, the proponents were able to convince everyone else in the team. It turned out that they had been worried about being shortchanged for nothing.

Treptow said that "it ended up being the case that most people and I assume perhaps most who aren't native English speakers didn't relate to [meaning just sufficient]". "Most people related it to'satisfaction. When they say Satisfactory it's like'Satisfactory. It's very satisfying.

Jace Varlet, Satisfactory’s former community manager, shared his memories of the same incident. He tweeted that he had "VERY wrongly " criticized Satisfactory at first, concerned it "sold [the game] as mediocre." This joke was used in their marketing to great effect.

Few videogame titles can compete with Satisfactory's level of punsmanship. There are a few games that come close to this: Splatoon, Contra: Hard Corps, Invisible, Inc., but none of them embodies the emotion you feel the entire time you play. Try feeling unsatisfied with every factory that you bring to life, and every conveyor belt that you feed with an endless stream parts. Can't be done.
