Silent Hill 2's latest patch fixes its previous patch in a possible meta-commentary on recursive horror
Remember the Silent Hill 2 remake 1.04 patch? James' wizardly powers, like matter-phasing or teleportation, were nerfed by the 1.04 patch. It turns out that, in addition to cutting off our protagonist's connection with the arcane it also cut off some players' ability, ahh, to complete Silent Hill 2? It introduced a bug which affected players who loaded a saved game in the Labyrinth. This would block further progress.
This is not good. Bloober Team, fortunately, was quick to respond: the studio released a hotfix just a few short days later. Patch 1.05, which is now available, has "implemented the fix by adding a safety measure that forces the proper activation of necessary triggers" when loading a Labyrinth save, "ensuring smooth progress moving forward."
You can now sync your saves across multiple devices, including desktops, laptops and anything else that you can install Steam. Bloober has enabled the Steam Cloud, which means that your saved games will now be able to be accessed on multiple devices. The 1.04 patch theoretically improved the performance of the game on Deck. It was unplayable at launch. This might make it more useful for those of us with Valve's portable.
After just starting the game on my Deck, I'm not sure if SH2 is 'playable on the handheld'.
I'm happy to see Bloober respond quickly to issues with the games. Silent Hill 2 has been a huge success, even better than I could have imagined. I had a great time with the preview. Kerry Brunskill, in PCG's Silent Hill 2 Review, called it "a fun but flawed take on an flawless gem," and scored it 78%. That was, of course, before Bloober fixed the teleporting. Maybe it would be higher now. Or lower? It's hard to say.
