The Sims 4 Grim Reaper Event is a lot of fun, but it's also a lot of bugged.
The Sims 4 has another login rewards event. Although it is still a bit strange for a singleplayer title to run a limited-time login event, there are some fun, short quests that you can play through. It's a bit buggy, which will shock you, I'm sure.
Maxis announced Reaper's rewards last month as its second battle pass-like reward dispenser. Reaper's rewards is different from the previous Happy at Home event, which only allowed you to redeem a reward by logging in. Instead, you have to complete some quests in Live Mode that revolve around helping the Grim Reaper. It began earlier this week and is set to run for eight weeks. This will continue through the launch date of the Life and Death expansion, which has a similar theme.
You'll have two quests to complete in the first week. You will help Grim discover a magical substance known as "ambrosia". To do this, you'll need to ask around town, grow plants, and cook. You'll earn event point for completing these quests. These points can be used to unlock rewards such as clothing, decor, consumables and even a “lot challenge” that can be applied to future builds.
The addition of themed quests with rewards is a great way to spice up the game. I see Sims players asking each other "what should i do if i'm bored with the game?" This seems like a good way to jump in and play without too much stress. I'm into it! Or I would, if the game wasn't bugged for me and many other people.
I am unable to do any Reaper's Reward quests because the quest objectives are not visible in the interface. The Sims 4 bug report forum shows that many other players have the same issue. Other players are experiencing issues such as tasks not being checked off when completed and not receiving credit, and rewards from the previous log in event disappearing.
Most players are aware of this. EA set up a team earlier this year to "invest in core game experience" and fix a large list of bugs. Personal I think that it will take more structural improvements for EA to make The Sims 4 the foundation for many more years of the series, as it recently announced.
The silver lining of Reaper's Reward is that the event lasts eight weeks, but there are six-weeks worth of quests to complete and rewards to earn. EA stated that this was done so you can play a little less often and miss a week. I hope that I and many others will be cooking up ambrosia in the next week.
