Star Wars Jedi Jedi: Survivor finally Forces Denuvo to leave the airlock with a patch that focuses on performance improvements

After a year of release, Jedi Survivor has said goodbye to Denuvo. This welcome change comes as part of Patch 9, along with other performance and quality-of-life improvements. It's a shame that it arrived just a month after finishing Cal's last adventure.

It's not unusual for Denuvo software to be removed from a game a few months after its release. Naturally, publishers are most concerned about piracy at launch, and EA considers Jedi: Survivor a success commercially. This will be a cause for celebration for those who blame Denuvo performance issues, even though its impact on games is inconsistent.

Durante, a Dark Souls modder, tested Final Fantasy 15 in 2018. He found that there was no difference in performance between the DRM free version (specifically the demo) and retail version. Other tests with different games have shown performance gains when Denuvo has been removed.

Denuvo is a pain in the arse. Denuvo can be a real pain in the a**.

Patch 9 promises frame rate improvements. It also fixes frame rate lags and optimises the annoying "Optimising game files" screen. This was a particularly irritating issue: each time you start the game, you're forced to sit through an annoying rigamarole. It's like an extra (and long) loading screen. While Respawn's decision to make it faster is a welcome one, you can skip it completely with some tweaks.

Here is the complete list of changes.

Performance Enhancements:

  • Frame rate improvements for different hardware configurations
  • Fixes to several sources of frame rate jittering for smoother gameplay.
  • Ray tracing is now optimized for CPU usage, and should scale better on high-end GPUs.
  • Fixes to improve performance when using a mouse for gameplay input.

Quality Of Life:

  • The "Optimising Game Files Screen" has been optimized and can now see performance increases from multiple cores.
  • The mouse and keyboard functionality of a variety menu screens has been improved, including the screens for first-time users, title menus, game menus, and workbench.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed collision issue that caused players to fall through elevators when frame rates are low.
  • Fix for a crash that occurs when you walk away from NPCs.
  • Fix for multiple, intermittent crashes

General:

  • Denuvo DRM is no longer available.
