Star Wars Outlaws will no longer have as many speeder wipeouts with its major update

Star Wars Outlaws by Ubisoft is a decent open world adventure that has its fair share problems. In the days following its release, I noticed that many people complained about Kay's speeder. It was too easy to fall from the thing when you hit rocks, trees, and other environmental items. That's realism. But realism can be annoying. People just want to ride their sci-fi motorcycles super fast without worrying about annoying wipeouts.

Ubisoft released a major update for Outlaws, which, among other things smoothens the riding. The studio says that it has "improved the speeder collision with environment to reduce being thrown off the speeder". I booted up the game and walked around Toshara. It's hard to judge what you're doing when you're actively attemptingto crash. But, brushing against walls while at high speeds resulted in me bouncing off of them rather than falling off my bike.

The speeder will also act less erratically if you call it. I noticed during my first playthrough that it would skid for a while and then come to a halt at a frustrating distance. Also, those who play with a wider FOV will notice the camera of the speeder is now less wonky (apparently the camera wasn't centred correctly).

The "overall stealth" experience has also been changed, which must have taken a lot of time and effort. Everything from the AI detection range to the number of baddies on any given arena was adjusted, but the best part is that the interactive environmental elements are now highlighted. Outlaws' stealth was very meat-and potatoes, and reminded me of other Ubisoft titles. I was probably in the minority. I think it's better that when Nix sets an enemy's weapon off more than once, they are forced to fight back instead of going into investigation mode.

Other highlights include: if you're using a controller, grenades can now be thrown with just a single button-press. Previously, it required accessing a mini-menu, which I found annoying. There are a number of annoying quest bugs that have been fixed, including the absence of a "Takeoff" button when you need to take off in 'The Wreck. The full patch notes are available here. Fair warning: they're a lot.

Morgan was one of those who liked it. "Star Wars Outlaws may be Ubisoft’s most ambitious title in years, but the game plays it safe and too basic," he wrote.
