Telltale sighs a long and tired sigh over 'unsubstantiated Reddit posts', reassuring fans that The Wolf Among Us 2 will still be made.

Telltale confirms that The Wolf Among Us 2 will still be in development. They had to remind the Internet at large that "unsubstantiated Reddit posts" do not mean a game is being shut down, regardless of how bad things looked in previous years.

This news comes from Eurogamer, who reached out to the developer after Glitched published a story hounding after rumours spread via a (since-deleted) Redditor by the name of Fabulous_Abrocoma_41, who claimed:

"I heard from a Telltale Games source that The Wolf Among Us 2 was in serious trouble because of budget constraints... While the project hasn’t been officially canceled yet, they're now at a point where they may have no choice but shelve it."

Telltale, presumably smoking a cigarette and staring into the distance with heavily ringed eyeballs under some sexy Noir lighting, responded to Eurogamer by saying: "As a general rule, we do not comment on rumours or unsubstantiated Reddit posts... development on The Wolf Among Us 2 is continuing and we are excited to share more information about the game with Telltale Fans and our Community when the time comes."

It seems like the rumours weren't true, but for once I can't blame the average layman who believed them. To say that The Wolf Among Us 2 had a difficult development would be the same as saying that a highway accident had a minor impact on traffic. It's a blithe comparison I make, despite enjoying the first game and hoping this next one will be here in the next century.

The Wolf Among Us 2 had been originally planned to be released in 2018, about six yearsago. However, the closure of Telltale messed up these gears, until the studio reopened its doors in 2019 (without most of its staff).

The Wolf Among Us would be announced at the 2020 game awards as still being in development, but it would take some time to get it ready. Telltale insisted that it would "ship it when it is right" but two years later, in 2022, a proper trailer was released. The studio announced that it would delay the game until 2024. This was because Telltale wanted the health of their team to be protected and that "if this game is not ready, then we will be torn apart". In October of that same year, it proceeded to layoff "most" its staff. Uh oh.

There have been some reassurances ever since. We got some new images in April of this year. I have a lot of sympathy for Telltale in all its different configurations over the last half-decade. After six years of "at just the right time" or "when it is ready", I'm left wondering when the stars will align. It's not surprising to me that a rumour has spread so far as to be dismissed by Telltale's own PR. The Wolf Among Us 2 will probably still be released this year.
