Acer Predator Helios 240 Hz gaming laptop: a beast at $1,450

$1,699.99 Best Buy: $1,449.99 (Save $250) This Acer may not be the slimmest model, but its specs are impressive. A 140 W RTX-4070 is paired with one of Intel's most powerful mobile CPUs and a 240 Hz IPS screen. The branding is not subtle and it's a bit choky, but this chassis packs a punch. With a 24-core processor sitting next to a full-fat GPU, it's likely that the noise will be loud.

If you're looking for a gaming laptop with a high refresh rate, I have a deal that is well worth your attention. This Acer Predator Helios Neo 16, which is priced at $1,450, has a 240 Hz screen.

A fast panel can make a big difference in competitive multiplayer gaming. The faster you can see the other players, the more likely you are to look like you're a hero, rather than a multiplayer zero. A 240 Hz IPS display in a gaming notebook under $1,500 can be a real boon.

It's not a waste to have a super-fast screen, but if the components aren't able to feed it enough pixels, it's a bit pointless. Thankfully, you get a 140 W RTX 4070 and an Intel Core i9-14900HX. This is one of Intel's most powerful mobile CPUs, paired with a Nvidia GPU.

It's not a RTX 4800, but a full-fat RTX4070, in combination with DLSS 3 and possibly Frame Generation, should be able pump dozens of frames into that high refresh rate display. This laptop is a great choice if you want to be the next esports darling or if you want to play fast-paced games on the go.

Of course, it's not all roses. I'd love to see more gaming laptops with 32 GB RAM, but 16 should be enough if you don't run too many background applications. You can get away with 1 TB, but you could always add a larger SSD to give yourself more space.

It's also a little choky. The Helios 16 may not be as slim as I would like, but I have seen larger gaming laptops. The Helios 16 is a great option for those who want a laptop that can be used at home but also on the go (or to friends for some old school LAN gaming fun).

I'd also imagine that it gets quite noisy. We reviewed an RTX 4080 version of the Helios and found that the Turbo setting was pretty distracting--although it must be said that any laptop rocking one of Intel's top-spec chips in combination with a decent GPU is likely to be a hair dryer at top whack.

Acer is a great option for those who want speed. At this price, it's a deal that is worth serious consideration.
