AMD's most recent 9000 series CPUs are on sale, as if I didn't already struggle with the price of Arrow Lake.
Intel had a good day yesterday. The chip company announced that it actually exceeded its earnings guidance. This means that shareholders are a bit better off than expected. It's a small drop of good news in a sea of mostly bad. Intel has had an unsteady year. While Lunar Lake was a surprise success, its desktop Arrow Lake processors are a damp squib.
The fact that AMD's current CPU line is so affordable makes the situation worse.
Newegg has the Ryzen 9000 series at the following prices:
- TheRyzen 9 9700X is only $312 - a $47 discount
- TheRyzen 9600X is only $234 -- a $45 discount
- TheRyzen 999950X is only $584 - a $125 savings
- TheRyzen9 9900X is only $383 - a $56 discount
Newegg offers Intel's Core Ultra 9 for $630. You could, if the stock was available. It's not unusual for chip launches to have low stock, but reports indicate that there is very little Arrow Lake available. Core Ultra 5 245K is available for as little as $319.
I wouldn't. In our tests, the 245K didn't win out over the 9600X and the AMD chip was 26% cheaper. You can also save money by choosing the right motherboard. Newegg currently has the most affordable Z890 board for Arrow Lake at $190 or $180 after a rebate. The most affordable AM5 board for the 9000 series is $76. I wouldn't recommend the cheapest board for a new 9000-series processor, but you could get a new and decent board for $115. This is the kind of savings you can put back into your pocket or upgrade to a faster processor.
My colleague Jacob has already covered the issue of Intel's pricing in his article on the AMD Ryzen 9 9800X3D which will be launched for $489 next week. The main takeaway from this is that AMD's prices look near-insurmountable to Intel at the moment. PC gamers who need to upgrade their CPU should take note of the discounts. Also, the new X3D chips could be the next big thing.
The 9700X is the best chip for PC gamers. Nick Evanson stated in his review that the $359 MSRP for the 9700X was a great price, and it was lower than the $399 launch price of the 7700X.
Now, at $312 it's even more attractive.
Black Friday is at the end the month. In the coming weeks and days, we're sure to witness retailers slashing prices faster than Halloween decorations. These AMD CPU discounts are actually part of Newegg’s Black Friday sale. Visit our page to find the best Black Friday PC Gaming deals of this year.
