Asmongold, a Twitch streamer better known as Zack Hoyt had one of his accounts blocked after a racist tirade towards Palestinians during a livestream. Asmongold claimed that he didn't care about the deaths of Palestinians in Gaza caused by the Israeli military. The United Nations estimates that more than 42,000 people have been killed. Most of them were women and children.
Asmongold said, "If you consider genocide to be a systematic killing a group, Sharia law has genocide built in right now," during the stream. The clip was shared widely on social networks. "So, no, I won't cry a river when people whose laws include genocide are being genocided. I don't care. They're horrible people. It's not even a question. It's absurd that people don't think of it this way. They would be doing the exact same thing.
"These people aren't your allies." They're not us. They are from a horrible inferior culture. It is a culture that is inferior in every way. It kills people because of their identity. It's that simple. "No, I'm not sorry for them. I don’t feel bad about them. I don’t care."
Hoyt's speech violates Twitch community guidelines in several ways.
- Twitch "doesn't permit behavior that is motivated from hatred, prejudice, or intolerance including behavior that promotes and encourages discrimination ..."
- Users cannot "Create Content that Expresses Inferiority Based on a Protected Characteristic, such as statements related to physical mental and moral deficiencies.
- Users cannot "Encourage or support the political or economic dominance of any race, ethnicity, or religious group, including support for white supremacist/nationalist ideologies. This does not include self-determination movements."
- Users cannot make "Statements stating that a group protected by law should not exist".
- Users cannot "Call for subjugation, segregation or exclusion, including political, economic, and social exclusion/segregation, based on a protected characteristic, including age."
Asmongold apologized on X after receiving a lot of criticism for his racist comments and Twitch's decision to ban his account.
"Looking back, I was a way too big a**hole about the Palestine issue," he wrote. "My bad. No one deserves to be destroyed, even if someone does something or has a view I find regressive. You deserve better than me saying stupid crap like that, I will do better."
This did not calm the anger: it turns out that many people do not consider "my mistake" as a sufficient expression for regret and reconsideration of their grossly racist attitudes towards an "inferior", "terrible", and "inferior culture".
The ban was applied to Asmongold’s "zackrawrr", which was at one time a secondary channel that he used to "chill" stream gaming. His nominal main Asmongold channels remain in place. He hasn't streamed in that channel in over a year and won't be allowed to stream on it again now that his defacto primary channel is blocked. Twitch rules state "any attempt to circumvent a chat ban or account suspension by using other accounts or aliases will also result in additional enforcement against your accounts up to an indefinite suspended."
