Atlus' lead says he would like to remake Persona 1 and 2, but it's not coming any time soon

Sometimes I still don't quite believe it. After years, even decades, of Atlus refusing to release Persona games anywhere but the PlayStation, I have 3, 4, and 5 in their expanded-edition versions, plus a 3 remake, in my Steam library. What a great time to be alive.

There's always something missing, right? Persona 1 and 2 are the original PS1 titles that were created before Katsura Hashino took over the series (who is now working on Metaphor ReFantazio). They're hard to find these days. The first game was released on PC but it's hard to get a legitimate copy. The second game has never been freed from its Sony prison.

Kazuhisa wada, the general producer of Persona series, is aware that people want to own the originals. It sounds like he would like to do so. The bad news is, if it happens at all, it won't be anytime soon. Wada told GameSpot that remakes of original games were not "on [his] agenda right now," but "would like to do it one day." This sounds like what my parents would tell me when I requested a toy that I was never, ever, going to receive.

Wada and company are currently focused on the imminent release Persona 3 Reload Episode Aigis, the new version Persona 3 FES Aigis-focused Epilogue. What's next? I would imagine that someone is working on Persona 6 in the depths of Atlus. Once that's done it might be worth Atlus' time for them to remake P1 and P2?

Sincerity be told, I'm not sure if I need them. If I were the philosopher-king-tyrant of the world, Atlus would just pretty up the original games with some light-touch remasters and put those out before moving onto to something entirely new. I'm not going to get my way. Persona 3 Reload was the fastest-selling Atlus game in history.

What else am I missing? The female protagonist of Persona 3 Portable is in Reload. Wada responded that the team had considered her absence when planning Episode Aigis but "the more we thought about what it would take to make it happen, the less likely it became." Wada says it's too expensive and time-consuming to outsource the project to an outside studio. It is also too delicate to be left to a third party. He's said it before, but I like the fact that his enthusiasm for P3’s female protagonist, Kotone Shiomi (please respect her name), is so strong that it haunts every interview.
