Baldur's gate 3 is up for more gold in 2024 after dominating The Game Awards 2023

The nominees for the 2024 Game Awards are in: This year's lineup is led by the PlayStation-exclusive Astro Bot and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, with seven nominations each including Game of the Year. Balatro is a PC Gamer favourite and is up for five awards. Baldur's Gate 3 has also been nominated for more awards after sweeping the 2023 Game Awards.

Larian's epic RPG is only up for a single award this year. This will probably come as a relief to the other contenders. Baldur's Gate 3, Helldivers 2, Fortnite, and No Man's Sky are all competing for the Best Community Service award. I'm inclined to say that it's my favorite: Larian's support for the game after launch has been nothing short of impressive, and I can't recall a single Helldivers 2-style misstep.

As always, the big category is Game of the Year. Balatro is also nominated for 2024, along with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Astro Bot. Other nominees are Black Myth: Wukong and Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. Balatro is up for Best Game Direction as well as Best Independent Game.

The Game Awards are decided by a "blended voting" system, 90% of the votes come from a "voting jury" and 10% comes from fan voting. The FAQ on the Awards Processes explains that, "Given some games are exclusives to one platform," a public vote places single-platform titles at a disadvantage. "In addition, winners should not be manipulated in any way. We find that a 'blend vote' is the most authentic and credible way to select winners."
