Bandai Namco & Amazon will not refund anime MMO Blue Protocol but they will give you 5,000 Funbucks per month until the game dies.
Bandai Namco announced that the Japanese live service anime MMO Blue Protocol would end on January 18, 2025. After discussions with Amazon Games the release of this title in Europe and US will be cancelled.
The game's management team wrote in a blog that they knew there was great anticipation for Blue Protocol ever since it was first announced. "We wanted to create an experience that was like stepping into the anime world. We have challenged ourselves to create a universe where every player could enjoy adventures as the main characters of the anime. We have been working hard to prepare for this release. We have concluded that we will not be able to satisfy all of you.
As expected, the fans of this game are not happy. One player said, "Dude, you're a scumbag." "You made my wait three years long and hyped me up as this was the game I most anticipated, then you dropped the Japanese version, then said global would be coming later and then you cancelled it??"
It's a shame for the players who spent a lot of money on Blue Protocol, but I think it's the players who are the most soiled.
In a second video announcement, developers discuss the final roadmap of Blue Protocol as well as what the next few weeks before the closure will look like. Players will not be eligible for refunds on Rose Orbs, and they will no longer be allowed to purchase more currency. Bandai Namco is giving away 5,000 Rose Orbs per month from September to January. You can still buy cosmetics just to have cool stuff. The newly released Battle Pass will be available for free to players.
While it is a shame that Blue Protocol was cancelled, there were a few red flags in the last year. Blue Protocol's executive director Sokichi Shimooka admitted in a Famitsu interview that Bandai Namco needed to divert resources into figuring out why players were leaving (via Siliconera).
