Gourdlets is a cute little building game that was released this week. It's all about creating cozy towns for little veggie people to enjoy themselves in. The game was created by a single designer, AuntyGames. We first saw a demo in 2022. This full release has a lot more to offer, including things to build and quality-of-life delights.
The basic idea is to place all sorts of things to create a townscape that the Gourdlets can explore. That's really it. The fun comes from the variety of things you can place and the landscapes you can design, then watching as the little gourdlets settle in. As they grow, they will earn you gifts delivered by train.
Gourdlets falls into the category of a relaxed game and toy that doesn't require much from its player other than a sense play and wonder. It's the kind of joy you might have experienced with games like Townscaper, Galaxy Garden or even the more recent Dystopika.
Gourdlets has more features and flexibility than other applications we've seen. It can be used as a full-screen application but also has a bottom screen mode that extends it across your monitor. This could be a fun way to add some interest to your work or chores while you are doing other things.
