It's not that wireless latency is affecting gaming performance. To be honest, I feel like this has been resolved for things like keyboards and mice, and certainly wireless audio.
I'm not sure how useful a wireless setup is. I can understand it for gaming mouse, it's nice not to be tied to the PC and have a cable that ties it up when you're playing. It's not going to make a big difference, other than being nicer.
Wireless gaming headsets are a different story. You're literally connecting the head to your PC with wired options. You will forget to remove your headset when you stand up and leave your desk. This will either unplug your PC with a painful tug on your ears, break the headset's 3.5 mm jack or even pull your PC over.
Wireless gaming headsets don't have this problem.
