Diablo 4 boss: Should the new class that deals billions of dollars in damage be "fixed" or not?

Rod Fergusson, the Diablo boss, made a brave decision yesterday by launching a "nonbinding" survey for his thousands X followers to determine whether Blizzard should fix the bugs that are causing its newest class's performance to be vastly superior.

"I don't say we're doing something, I'm only saying that a course that's been out of session for 3 weeks as opposed to 16 months will have some issues to address," he wrote. "Real question is how soon."

Out of over 10,000 votes, 63.1% said to leave the spiritborn the way they are. However, the replies (and Reddit threads) suggest that Fergusson overlooked a third option.

Many players, myself included, would like to see the other classes improved, so that the gap between the spiritborn and them isn't as ridiculously large. Spiritborn players are able to easily crush the hardest dungeons in the game without much effort. I think taking away this power would upset people who have invested a lot of time and effort into their characters.

Blizzard has said repeatedly that it will not nerf anything within a year to avoid upsetting the players as it did shortly after launch. Blizzard leaves them alone unless a bug is ruining their experience, such as the unlimited evade version earlier this month. Fergusson deserves credit for this, but the situation was a bit different.

The Vessel of Hatred expanded rewrote the way Diablo 4 progresses and made it harder overall with its new difficulty levels and ramping up powerful item drops. The spiritborn's excessive numbers of damage have allowed players to avoid making interesting choices when building their character. To reach half of the damage that spiritborn can do, other classes will need to improve their gear.

Diablo 4 doesn't have competitive PvP (or at least, nobody does PvP), and the only real imbalance is how quickly you can get through dungeons to find the items you need. It's just slower if you aren't a spiritborn, and you may feel like you need to use a meta-build to get anywhere. It's true that spiritborn can clear the hardest dungeon, but that only affects a small number of players. The real problem is the length of grind when you are not dealing trillions in damage.

Fergusson clarified that the poll will not directly influence Blizzard’s decision. Next week, there will be a patch that does not include any nerfs for the spiritborn or any buffs for the other classes. Everyone is waiting for the mid-season update, which I expect to hear in a few more weeks.
