Dragon Age: The Veilguard requires you to recreate your Inquisitor right at the beginning of the game. So now is a good time for you to go and remind yourself what they looked liked.
It's worth taking your time to create the perfect hero for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. I spent almost two hours on the character creator to make sure my Rook looked perfect. I don't regret it for a second.
It would have been nice to know that Veilguard uses the same character creator trick as Baldur's Gate 3: after you've spent an evening carefully shaping every detail of your character, and you're finally happy with it, it asks you to do it all over again, but this time with a different character.
Veilguard lets you create your own Inquisitor, the hero from Dragon Age Inquisition. In Veilguard, the Inquisitor has a small role, similar to Hawke's in Dragon Age Inquisition. You can design their appearance, choose their species, gender, and voice as well as a few broad choices about their fate.
I have fond memories of Inquisition. It was nice to see a direct connection to that game, but at the same time it's been 10 years since I last played it. If I had known that I would have to recreate the Inquisitor I played from memory, I may have gone back and re-read some of the details. Instead, I ended up with an almost hazy version of them that I think is right. They're good enough for a brief cameo, but to be honest, they don't feel like , my inquisitor.
It's worth going back to your old Inquisitor and looking at it. If you've played multiple times, you can choose which playthrough you want to be the canon. Take screenshots as a reference. When you start Veilguard make sure you have a full evening to play around with the appearance of not only one but two saviours of Thedas.
It's worth watching a recap on the story of the game, too. The choices you make about your Inquisitor may be brief and vague, but it is important to remember some late-game decisions. The three questions are:
- Who did your Inquisitor romance?
- Was it the Inquisition that was disbanded or absorbed by the Chantry at the end?
- Did your Inquisitor swear to stop Solas or redeem him?
Unfortunately, this means that all of your other choices in Inquisition or previous Dragon Age games don't appear to carry over in any way. It's been a while, and if I can't recall what I chose in an old quest then maybe I don't want to see a reference to it anymore? In the days ahead, we'll have more thoughts about choice and legacy.
If you haven't played Inquisition yet, it's much easier. You can choose a preset look and make the choices you find most interesting, or you can leave everything default. You'll only need to be prepared for being a little confused when the Inquisitor appears later.
