Dragon Age: The Veilguard will get a prequel as an audio drama podcast
If you've heard the old radio plays based on Sherlock Holmes, you'll be familiar with the joy of hearing actors crisply pronounce a conversation accompanied by the soundscape of gravel crunching underfoot. Dragon Age: Vows & Vengeance is an audio drama produced in podcast format as part of the build up to Dragon Age The Veilguard. Expect something similar, but with more arrows twanging or spells whooshy.
Vows & Vengeance, a prequel to the story of the videogame, is about a retired thief who searches for her lover in The Fade. Seven of the eight episodes feature a guest star from the game. Harding, the beloved dwarf scout of Inquisition will be featured in episode two. According to the teaser we can also expect to see characters like Solas or Varric.
It's encouraging to see BioWare putting a lot of effort into narrative support for The Veilguard. This podcast joins the short story anthology Tevinter Nights, a comic book called The Missing, and the Netflix series which I suspect will also factor into the plot. It's a good reminder of past efforts, like Dragon Age: Redemption - the web series starring Felicia day and created by her - which was tied into an excellent expansion for Dragon Age 2.
BioWare also showed off the combat. But it's really the story that I'm interested in, and the payoff we've waited a decade for. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is due out on October 31. It will also bring back the tradition of ugly cosmetics for preorders, if you want them. Vows & Venomous debuts on August 29, and is available on all major podcasting services, Spotify, and YouTube.
