Fallen Aces includes a pulp hero hideout, as well as a small unfriendly dog
Fallen Aces, the creative and bloody little shooter, has just released a new update that adds an area where you can relax between missions, upgrade your weapons, and take a rest. The release includes player profiles, collectibles comics that can be found around the city and a new type of enemy at the end chapter 3 - the hammer-wielding Big Palooka.
Nightwave's Hideout gives a nod to the setting of the game, where your two fisted detective is trying figure out what happened with the pulp heroes that call your city home. This hideout is the place where one of these injured warriors has taken refuge. The hideout is constantly changing, with new items and dialogue appearing after Chapter 2. This is a bit surprising for a game with the most voice acting and dialogue we've ever seen in New Blood.
It has a grumpy dog named Spadey. That's a surefire way to make me like it.
Blake will be at the hideout in Chapter 3 and he will sell you upgrades for your inventory to carry more whiskey and food. The new hideout includes a shooting range where you can test your weapons against a variety of pop-up targets. These include enemies from the noir world of Fallen Aces, which is a rain-slick noir. (Corrup police, mob goons. I'm pretty sure that's them all.
Fallen Aces has been praised by PC Gamer writers for its immersive aesthetic. It's like a sim set inside a pulp adventure story. They also praise the game's mix of stealth-optional battles and chaotic melees that feels like it belongs in the 90s, despite its modern elements.
"You can throw and pick up anything in the environment. This adds an exciting twist to Fallen Aces already improvisational gameplay. I usually use trash cans, oil barrels, or discarded weapons to stagger or interrupt ranged enemies before I can close the distance. But there are also plenty of bright red gas canisters which made six-on-one fights a breeze. I would also be remiss to not mention the tactical banana skin: Find a banana. You can eat the banana for a little health boost, leaving behind a peel which trips up enemies and allows them to be taken out instantly," said Ted Litchfield in a love letter to Fallen Aces.
The Hideout Update on Fallen Aces is available on Steam.
