Fallout 4’s best modder brings Doom to Starfield, and bards in Skyrim

As QuakeCon began yesterday, I was surprised to see a familiar face appear repeatedly in Bethesda’s stream. No, it's not Todd Howard. Not Marty Stratton. Not Doom Guy, John Starfield, or Beth Esda.

It was Kinggath. Kinggath, a modder that I strongly associate with Fallout 4, is the one who invented it in my opinion. Kinggath's Sim Settlements and Sim Settlements 2, which are essential to Fallout 4, could as well not exist. I won't do a 10-paragraph pitch, because I've already done it: Here's why you shouldn't play Fallout 4 without Sim Settlements 2

The first few minutes were filled with Kinggath mentions, as he is now working on official Creations for Bethesda. Kinggath's first project, which we saw yesterday, is an expansion to the disappointing vanilla Bards College in Skyrim. Bethesda did indeed put a Bard's College into Skyrim and added a bunch quests to it, but still didn't allow you to become a bard. I agree that it was either an act or cruelty. It's like a sanitation driver playing ice cream truck music to see the disappointment of kids who run outside with their dollars.

This unforgivable mistake will finally be rectified. The Bard's college expansion adds an "important" storyline to the musical faction and, get this, you can become a bard. "The mountains will come to life as you play your instrument on the open road. Use them to earn money by playing for an auditorium or to inspire your combat allies."

Naturally, you're not the sole bard in Skyrim. Learn insults and retorts while you battle other Bards to earn coin and prestige. The Bard's College Expansion isn't free: it costs 1,000 "Creation Credits," which works out to $10 on Steam. You can also create a ballad to sing your exploits around the world. The Bard's College Expansion will cost you 1,000 "Creation credits", which is about $10 on Steam. Check out the trailer and learn more about the expansion.

You can't play this Creation yet, so you'll need to start Starfield and then turn it off. You can see a few glimpses below of a "Doom inspired miniquest" by Kinggath. Doom Guy armor is checked. Check. That iconic shotgun: check. Check. Check. Check. We don't yet have a release date for "At Hell's Gate", but we'll let you know as soon as we do.
