GitHub is currently down.

UpdateGitHub appears to be recovering from the outage. Original story below.

GitHub, a vast repository of open source software, has been temporarily unavailable.

The GitHub status page states that "All GitHub Services are experiencing significant disruptions."

The outage began shortly after 4:00 pm Pacific Time when GitHub stated "We are investigating reports that Actions, Pages, and Pull Requests have degraded availability." The problem has spread to the entire site since then. According to the status page, GitHub suspects that the issue is a "database infrastructure-related change that we are currently working on rolling back."

At 4:45 PM PST, GitHub announced that it was rollingback the changes it believed were causing the current issues. It also noted that "improvements in service health" had already been observed.

It's a rare outage on GitHub, which millions of developers use to host code for open-source projects. Microsoft bought GitHub in 2018 for $7.5 billion, and its popularity has only grown since then.
