I have the perfect strategy RPG for those who love big trucks, trading routes, and the phrase "post-apocalyptic business simulator".
I have fond childhood memories of playing endlessly a strategy trading games for the Apple 2 named Taipan! I'm not shouting, but the game title included an exclamation mark. I would spend hours in Taipan if it was based on the novel of James Clavell, Shogun fame. Sail between ports, buying silk, guns and opium at the lowest price and then selling it at its most expensive. You can play Taipan in your browser. You can play it in your browser to see for yourself.
Dustland Delivery is a strategy RPG that reminds me of Taipan! The game is set in a Mad Max style wasteland in a post-apocalyptic world, not in China during the 1800s. You have a large truck to upgrade and maintain. You also need to establish trade routes between distant outposts. There are also random encounters on the road that you must deal with. And, of course, there is a crew of misfits who may include irradiated mutations, the undead and even a circus clown. Check it out:
If you're one who loves fishing in games, there's also fishing. (I am one such person.)
Dustland Delivery isn't just about driving supplies from city-to-city to earn scrap by buying cheap and selling high. With the help of characters you recruit, you can actually build your own wasteland city. You'll encounter enemies in the apocalyptic world, including swarms infected, armored Pirates, and others. I haven't really played much yet, but I love the wasteland feel and my mobile base.
Dustland Delivery, which was released in early access in July, is now 20% off Steam. This means you can build a trade empire on the wasteland for less than $7 for the rest of this week.
