Influencer sociopathy is at a new level as a local idiot wrecks 200,000 car on livestream, while checking his phone. Then he asks the bleeding passenger to continue recording.

Jack Doherty, a YouTuber, streamer and influencer, has been banned from Kick for life after crashing a $200k sports car into a guardrail on livestream while looking at his smartphone (via NBC News). Doherty is known for his prank videos, Mr. Beast-style cash stunts, and having just under 15,000,000 subscribers on YouTube.

Clips from the stream are still being circulated, and show Doherty driving a McLaren 570S along the highway. Doherty was driving at high speeds while constantly checking his phone, despite the rain. Doherty is left without control of the steering or brakes as the car hydroplanes and loses its traction. The McLaren narrowly avoided colliding with other vehicles before crashing against a guardrail along the right-hand side.

Doherty has uploaded clips that show what happened. He uploaded a video in which he screamed for help from the car shortly after the accident. As people helped Doherty from the wreckage, he asked one person to hold the camera.

Doherty seems more concerned about the car that he just totaled than the injured cameraman, who is in the passenger's seat and has a bleeding wound on his head. Doherty is shown whining and complaining about the car, while giving the injured cameraman a cellphone, saying, "Michael here." Michael, do you also have your film on that one? Doherty also posted a clip of the two in the hospital, where the wounds of the cameraman were being stitched.

The main clip from the crash was widely shared online over the weekend. Doherty’s account was permanently blocked on Kick on Saturday. Kick's spokesperson said that the company "doesn't condone illegal activities, which is why it took swift action to ban this creator."

Kick's safety policy addresses exactly the type of behaviour Doherty exhibited after the crash. "Prioritize your safety, that of your audience, public and everyone else involved." If someone is in danger, or needs help, you should turn your camera off and contact local EMS.

Doherty started posting clips after he had spoken to an adult and had presumably stopped looking at his phone. He also posted an apology. "It has been 24 hours since the incident and I want to express how grateful I am for Michael and me being alive," said Doherty. "I'm sorry Michael put you through that. Thank you to the first responders, and everyone else who helped us out of the vehicle. This could have been so much worse. It's a big learning lesson."

Doherty posted a video showing the wrecked vehicle in his front lawn, along with his other vehicles. He also recorded himself giving a brand new jetski to the cameraman who was involved in the accident.

This is not the first video of the influencer crashing a vehicle. In March, he posted a video showing him flipping an off-road Can-Am vehicle. He also included a photo of the injury to his arm and asked viewers if he should visit the hospital.

In November of last year, Doherty crashed a golf car with his girlfriend. The vehicle ended up on top her. Doherty apologizes in that case, as he tries to move the golf cart off of her. He then adds "I literally thought I broke your fuckingneck." I tried to hold it. Golf cart is fine, but." He posted this video under the title "I flipped my girlfriend a golf cart!" It has just under one million views.

This charmer posted a video on June 20, 2023, bragging about the McLaren he bought, saying it cost him more than $200,000. He also joked that he was going to "crash" this car.

Even by the sociopathic standard of today's influencers, it is an incredible act. Doherty just survived an accident that was caused by his reckless driving and could have injured his colleague seriously. He treats it as a positive and tries to get both the rescuers and the victims to record video for him.

Kick may have made a good decision here, but Doherty still has access to other platforms and an enormous audience. Maybe the major streaming platforms and video platforms could have a reciprocal ban in place to deal with such extreme behavior. The way this guy is going he will end up killing someone. Then, no doubt, take some footage of what happens.
