Jagex, the developer of RuneScape, is working on an open-world survival game and is looking for testers.

Jagex is developing a new RuneScape-based survival game and is looking for help with a upcoming closed beta test.

The message of today states that "Jagex is working on a new Survival game in the RuneScape Universe using Unreal Engine 5." "We know Jagex works best when it's working with players. We're looking for playtesters to join our Closed Alpha."

The RuneScape Survival game was announced in June 2022. Sadly, despite more than two years passing, the studio has not revealed any more information about it. The new game will be built using Unreal Engine 5 - and it's RuneScape. The Jagex website describes it as "a rich immersive environment" with "large and complicated areas." That's not much of a description.

It's reasonable to expect that we'll learn more about the game in the near future, with an alpha testing scheduled. If you want to be a part of the alpha test, you will need to fill out an online survey. It starts with basic questions like your age, language and location before moving on to more specific ones like whether you are familiar with RuneScape and what survival games you have played in the past. You will also be asked if you are willing to play the game like a tester, which means spending many hours playing it and providing feedback through other surveys and Discord, as well as signing an NDA. If you say yes to all the above, then you'll need to provide information about your Steam and Discord accounts, as well as your PC specs.

I wonder if the world really needs another survival game. But one based on RuneScape might have the juice, as Harvey Randall would say. Old School RuneScape was released in 2013, while RuneScape is a game that has existed in some form since 2001.

Both games have a dedicated following. By "dedicated", I mean that they spend thousands of hours catching a billion crappy fish without any particular reason or grinding an annoying minigame for 149 hour so they could get their pet raccoon (which is ironic, because raccoons, as we know, are the most notorious criminals in the animal kingdom). Who knows? A RuneScape Survival Game could be the next big thing.

But first, the alpha test. After completing the signup survey, you will receive a message stating that your registration was successful and a reminder for you to check your email for any further updates. Jagex has not yet revealed how many players they are looking for. When will the updates begin? This is just as mysterious as everything else in Jagex's new game.
