Lonely Mountains Downhill will get a sequel with a skiing theme, making it the 2nd winter sports game announced in this month.

The sequel to the challenging and chilling mountain biking game Lonely Mountains: Downhill will be released later this year.

The game is called Lonely Mountains Snow Riders and it will see players navigate a variety of chilly mountain descents. They'll perform tricks, look for shortcuts, and compete to get the best time on each course.

The original game was praised by critics for its blend of relaxing outdoor vibes and deceptively realistic mountain-biking simulator. It was a game that encouraged you to enjoy the environment and the challenges at your own pace.

The reveal trailer shows the sequel in action. It looks like Snow Riders is going to capture the same sense of place as the original. It will be interesting to see if Megagon can transfer its physics simulation skills to skiing and how adding snow and ice changes the challenges that players face in the game's steep courses.

Snow Riders introduces online multiplayer along with the change in scenery/sport. The Steam page for the game says that it supports 2-8 players in a single hillside. Players can "work down the mountain in co-op mode, adding save points along the way" or "compete against each other in a race to the bottom in versus mode". The addition of multiplayer seems to be a natural progression for the series. However, it does contradict the 'Lonely" part of the title.

It's strange that this is the second downhill winter sport game announced in the last month, after Descenders Next was revealed last week. Both games are sequels of well-received downhill mountain-biking titles that were both released in 2019. Descenders is a snowboarding game, not a skiing game, so the two studios don't share the same vision.

The trailer for Lonely Mountains Snow Riders does not specify a release date, but it states that the game will be released in 2024. Expect more information in the near future.
