Lunacid's Halloween Update brings jack-o'-lanterns to Wing's Rest. But most importantly, it fixes a number bugs and provides an update regarding language localization.

Lunacid, a dark and dingy fantasy fantasy dungeon-crawler, has decorated its halls in time for Halloween. As a fantasy Halloween lover, this is fantastic news. KIRA LLC, despite the fact that the game is already filled with ghosts and goblins, has added even more decorations to Wing's Rest in order to help players celebrate the season.

According to a Steam event, Wing's Rest is decorated with jack-o'-lanterns and "a couple of other furnishings", as well as a "mischievous flash of orange flames," in order to get you into the spooky mood of the abandoned shrine.

Even at my advanced age, the addition of pixelated jack-o'-lanterns to the game's already nostalgic PS1 aesthetic makes me want to don a cape, a pair or cheap plastic fangs, and go trick-or-treating in Wing's Rest. But I'm afraid the dark alleys and curses of the dungeons would quickly put me off.

Not only that, but there's more. Lunacid has received several improvements and fixes. These details were shared along with the Steam post and include many bug fixes, such as Garrat’s problems with multitasking - the poor blighter could not move while reloading. The players have been asking about a lot of Quality of Life improvements for a long time. Below is the full list of Patch Notes:

  • Wand projectiles can change color according to the element.
  • Light Reveal is more useful.
  • Fixes Useable Items being equipped in the wrong slot when used.
  • Fix Garrat not moving after reloading.
  • Menu bugs have been fixed.
  • The accuracy of projectiles was not fixed.
  • Wing's Rest has a slightly improved lighting system.
  • Fixed Khopesh Backwards
  • Additions to Halloween items
  • More character portraits added.
  • Make the main menu look better.

Wing's Rest also has a new lighting system, which means it's not as dark as you're used to. It's still got the grime and grit that you'd expect from an old-school dungeon-crawler, but it's a lot easier to see. This is great for someone like myself, who appreciates not having to squint. Don't get it wrong, I love a dark, dreary aesthetic. I just don’t like that I start to jump at shadows when it gets dark.

This Halloween update includes more than just fixes and decor. It also announces that localization for eight new languages is in its final testing phase. If the list of incoming language is the same list shared in June we can expect Lunacid will add Brazilian, Portuguese (LATAM), Chinese, Polish (Russia), Spanish (Spain), Japanese and Nyan. There is a possibility that this list may have changed in the last three month, so keep an eye out for any updates as we get closer to a new localization update.

Why have the localisation updates taken so long? KIRA LLC said that Lunacid was a text-heavy title, and that the amount of text in the menus, spell descriptions, and dialogue made for a lot work.

We should enjoy the spooky atmosphere of Wing's Rest in the meantime. These pumpkins won't be around forever and I want to bask a little longer in the orange glow from the abandoned shrine. We'll know more about the next major update after Halloween.
