Metaphor: ReFantazio, the new fastest-selling Atlus game, sold a million copies on its first day.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is released today, but it's likely that you already know this. You may already own the game. Atlus boasts that the game, a tale of high fantasy racism fought by a fake David Bowie, has already sold one million copies across all platforms

In a post (machine translated) on its website, Atlus announced "total worldwide sales have exceeded 1 million copies!" As is the company's tradition, Shigenori Soejima created a celebratory sketch of Gallica - the game's equivalent of Persona 5's Morgana or Persona 4 Teddie - to mark the occasion.

Atlus doesn't actually say, but unless i'm wrong I think that Metaphor is the new fastest-selling video game for Atlus. Atlus announced in 2024 that Persona 3 Reload was its fastest-selling title ever, with 1 million sales in the first week. Metaphor has done this in time for Day. So, barring any bookkeeping anomalies, I think it's now the new record holder.

It's both surprising and not to me. Metaphor, as its marketing would have you believe, is the latest game from Persona veterans such as director Katsura Hashimoto, and has received rave reviews. It's a new series, with a name which is, to be honest, a bit confusing. I could have seen it going either direction.

I'm glad that it went the right direction. I've played the game for about 15 hours and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Lewis Parker gave the game a 95% rating in PCG's Metaphor ReFantazio Review, where he gave it the highest praise that I can imagine. I can't say the same about any other long-lasting game, not even Persona.
