Do you need a 4K monitor with a refresh rate higher than 165 Hz? The MSI MAG 321UP from Newegg for $799 is a great deal. It's an awesome 4K OLED gaming screen, but it's much cheaper than before.
This thing is much cheaper than many 4K oleds. Models as high as $1,300 have been seen, including the Asus ROG Swift PG32UCDM. This is the same 32-inch Samsung panel but it runs at 240 Hz instead of 165 Hz.
How often will you be able to get 240 Hz in 4K? In our original review, the Nvidia RTX 4090 is still the fastest graphics card available. We only had one game that averaged more than 165 fps. Most games were below that. That was almost two years ago. Since then, games haven't become lessdemanding.
You'll still see lower frame rates with a GPU that is less powerful. DLSS and frame generation are the two main factors that mitigate this. Even with these technologies, you won't be able to get more than 200 frames per second in the latest games. This is not a monitor that you should buy if you want to play Counter-Strike. 165 Hz? It's plenty.
This monitor is identical to every other 32-inch QD-OLED display in all other respects. This monitor has a full-screen brightness of 250 nits, a peak HDR brightness of 1,000 nits, and a response time of 0.03 ms.
My main objection is the USB-C interface's 15W power delivery limit. So a single cable connection to a laptop doesn't work. Who cares if you can enjoy the combination of crisp 4K pixel density and OLED-powered HDR sizzle?
Did I mention the perfect lighting per pixel and contrast? Once you've used OLED, it's difficult to go back to IPS. The downside is that, as with all monitors using Samsung QDOLED panel technology, the quantum dots and lack of polarising filters means the panel absorbs ambient light and then reflects it back in bright conditions. In really bright conditions, the black tones may appear a little gray.
Burn-in is a concern with any OLED monitor. You can rest assured with a three-year guarantee. This 32-inch OLED 4K makes the 27-inch 1440p models that cost similar money look astronomically overpriced. If you've been waiting for a more affordable 4K option, your wait is over.
