Palworld's community manager congratulates Black Myth Wukong on its continued success

Black Myth: Wukong is a huge success since its release. In less than 24 hours, it broke the concurrent player records of Counter-Strike 2 and Palworld to become Steam's second most played game. Palworld's community manager seems to not care that the game has left it in the dust.

John "Bucky Buckley" Buckley, Palworld's Community Manager, says: "I hope Wukong reaches 4 million." "We won't be seeing another game reach this height until probably GTA 6." Black Myth Wukong has 1.5 million players as of this writing. It currently has a peak of 2.2 millions for both the 24-hour and overall period, which is about 100,000 more than Palworld. The two games are so close in peak player counts that there have been many comparisons.

Palworld has been around for a while, so it's not surprising that the numbers aren't as high. Bucky says, "I don't know what the negativity was for." "People had a good time. People are still having fun. Isn't this all we ask as game developers? "We want people to enjoy our games."

Bucky even said he would vote for Black Myth Wukong in a player vote if it were ever up against Palworld: "I would vote for Wukong, because I think that this is the type of positive change the Chinese gaming industry needs." Wukong proves that a singleplayer game with good design can be huge. It's not some mobile hybrid that has 5,000 different microtransactions.

While the first day of Wukong was a clear success, there were a few strange snags along the way. Black Myth: Wukong was said to have strange streamer guidelines. These included not discussing Covid-19 and "feminist propagandist." There have been a few different reactions. MoonMoon's Wukong channel, titled "Covid-19 feminism propaganda" was my personal favourite.
