Pud's Dolbus gives you 5.1 surround audio from headphones, with a side order of Saw trap nightmares

Philip, the headphone inventor who is a favourite of PC Gamer, has created a pair of headphones that look like Jigsaw traps and pump out 5.1 surround sound audio.

Philip is now showing off his 5.1-surround-sound headphones on Reddit. Only, I'm not sure if these headphones should be called speakers or headphones. Let's go sci-fi and call them The Mind Prison.

Philip explains that the actual name of these headphones is Dolbus. This means "surround sound headphone with five speaker drivers and a subwoofer". Even the best gaming headphones can only provide virtualsurround sound, and no matter how impressive it may be, it will never be as good a real surround-sound system.

This pair (pentuplet?) of "headphones" does exactly that. The "headphones" are actually five tiny speakers that surround your head. You place your head in the middle of five tiny speakers.

Needless to say, unless you have some two-feet-out-the-socket curvy eyeballs, you won't be using these for gaming, or for much that requires, well, seeing anything, because there'll be a speaker right in front of your eyes. Practical? Maybe not. But would I still want a set? But... maybe not... Please don't make me fall into the Mind Prison.

But I will fight for anyone who does it, because this is an incredible concept, just like all of Pud’s wondrous creations. You've twisted my arm. Sign me up. It's worth it, even if you have nightmares.
