Randy Pitchford said Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands did not get DLC, because there was "no way to make that happen and still focus on Borderlands 4" that we needed.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, the Borderlands-spinoff looter-shooter, is pretty good if you're a fan of that kind of thing. It was also a surprise success: Take-Two Interactive stated in 2022 that it "outperformed expectations" and that it was "the best 2K franchise launch in several years." You might have expected Tiny Tina's Wonderlands to be released in a relatively short time, but it wasn't.

Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford explained recently on Twitter that the reason is simple: Borderlands 4 "I wish we could have managed some large campaign DLC but there was no way to do this *and* focus on Borderlands 4 as we needed to," Pitchford tweeted. "I'm sorry that I couldn't discuss it at the time. But the world is still the world."

Pitchford denied that Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands had been a failure. He said it was "far away from a flop."

The timeline fits. Pitchford hinted at a new Borderlands title in May 2021. This was nearly a full year before Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands was released. Gearbox was already focusing on Borderlands 4 at this point.

In his 70% review, Australian editor Jody Mcgregor said that Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is not a full-fat Borderlands game. It was "bigger than a Borderlands expansion but smaller than a Borderlands standalone game".

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will not be forgotten. Pitchford recently hinted that there will be more Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. This is after all videogames where sequels are king. In an interview with GamesRadar in July, Pitchford said that the success of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands was "something we can build upon" and that it is "reasonable for our fans to expect further there." Just, ya know, not until after Borderlands 4? For the record, it is currently scheduled to happen sometime around 2025.
