Rumoured new AMD Ryzen 5 5500X3D may be our first 3D V-cache gaming processor under $200

AMD has a good track record when it comes extending the life span of the AM4 socket. It announced the Ryzen 9 (5900XT) and Ryzen 5 (5880XT) chips back in June. Now, AMD has announced that a new 3D-V-cache is coming to the socket.

According to Sweclockers, a new Ryzen 5 5500X3D version has been spotted in the Eurasian Economic Commission's register of goods. The entry does not provide any details but it is believed that the new CPU model has six cores and twelve threads with base and turbo speeds of 3GHz and a 4GHz.

The limited edition Ryzen 5 5600X3D that MicroCenter released last summer has the exact same core count, but clocks at 3.3GHz, 4.4GHz, and 4.4GHz turbo speeds. It was advertised at $230 last year, but it is not available right now.

You can also get the 8-core, 16 thread Ryzen 7 5700X3D, which has clock speeds of 3GHz and 4GHz, for about $210. The Ryzen 7 is also available in the OG 3D-cache model with 8 cores and 16 Threads. This model has 3.4GHz and 4.5GHz clocked clocks. It's a lot more expensive at $340.

To make sense, the 5500X3D will have to be priced below the 5700X3D, which costs $210. At the current price, it could be the first AMD 3D-cache chip that dips below $200.

If so, this will be a welcome option for PC owners with AM4 motherboards. A gaming chip with a price tag of less than $200 could be a great option for budget gamers.

It remains to be seen whether or not it will happen, and how the chip will be available if it does. It's hoped that the launch will be more widespread and easier to obtain than the 5600X3D.

We can't buy the chip right now. The only way to get it is to go to the MicroCenter that sells the product.

This rumoured 5500X3D could be the result of a limited number of eight-core X3D processors with a few broken cores. Supplies may therefore be limited. Here's hoping AMD is ready to roll out a large number of these chips.
