Suda51 isn't sure who's behind the famous Twitter account Wario64 that made him the face for gaming deals. 'I met him... but he literally fled'
Wario64 is a gamer who has been tirelessly collecting news and deals on games for years. Wario64, who has been compiling news and deals on games for many years, has touched a lot of people. But it's always been odd how much the Wario64 characters look like legendary Japanese video game designer Goichi Suda51.
Suda51, despite having nothing to do the the million-follower Instagram account, has been the face for gaming deals over the past decade thanks to the mysterious information broker who uses his image as an icon. This hasn't been overlooked--in 2013, Suda challenged Wario64 to prove that they weren’t a robot. (My theory is that they're 64 Warios in a office, but the rest of the world isn’t ready for it).
In a recent Suda51 interview about bringing Shadows of the Damned back, I asked him how he felt about being the face of today's video game deals. Did Wario64 pass the Voight-Kampff Test and prove that they aren't robots once and for all?
Suda51 stated that "I probably I met him around 10 years ago at the E3." Suda51 was unable to confirm the identity of this rare gaming cryptoid despite possible sightings.
I'm pretty certain it was him. He asked me what I thought of Wario64. I replied, "Yeah, I'm sure I know about Wario64." Wait a minute -- are you him?! He literally ran away. "I'm pretty certain it was the real dude."
We now have direct confirmation that Wario64 exists, a fact that seems to be lost in the mists and obscurities of internet history every few decades, despite the fact Wario64 wrote for GameTrailers. The question remains. Is Wario64 an AI? A collective? Or, as Suda51 described them, is it just one person who scurries about game conventions, perhaps like those little Golden Axe guys with the bags full of riches, or as Suda51 described them, a collective?
Suda wants to meet Wario64 once more, despite their brief, perhaps-authentic encounter from years ago. Suda51 said, "E3 no longer exists, and there are fewer industry events where people can meet. But I hope to be able to meet him. (I'm not sure if I can call Wario64 'him,' now that I think of it)" "[I] would ask how it feels having over a million fans, so I could go and tell everyone else what they said."
