The Legend of Vox Machina, Critical Role's blockbuster animation series, has announced Season 4, which means that D&D's worst villain is returning to streaming TV

I've had a blast watching The Legend of Vox Machina. It's an animated series based off the D&D campaign of Critical Role. This little TTRPG empire was so popular that it received millions of dollars in funding within one hour of the Kickstarter going live.

It has enjoyed a number of twists and turns from the original material. While I'm largely sold on them all, there are some moments that I regret didn't get a chance to shine. I won't go into detail for fear of spoilers. Besides, there's still time to incorporate them into the story now that the fourth season has been approved.

Sam Riegel is the actor (and voice) for sensual bard and maestro Scanlan Shorthalt. "We've got a fourth season!"

I'm both excited and terrified. The teaser at Season 3's end (spoilers of the original livestreamincluding the big bad of the Season 4's inevitably going to be) makes it look like we're heading straight into Vecna's territory. This means that one of D&D’s most notorious baddies, so pervasive that he made his appearance in Stranger Things and Dead by Daylight (the lich has been busy), is returning to the silverscreen for a second.

Exandria, Matt Mercer’s homebrew setting is pretty familiar to anyone familiar with D&D's canon. Vecna, Matt Mercer’s take on Vecna, is pretty recognisable--big lichs, scary powers, trying ascend to godhood and lots of zombies. You know the score.

I won't go into any more detail, but the uninitiated are in for an exciting ride. Vox Machina’s battle against the Chroma Conclave was marked by some heart-wrenching moments, but this next arc has a hundred more knives that the showrunners can twist if they so choose.

"Show Amazon you love us, and we'll continue to make more of these," says Marisha, voice of the storm (and, coincidentally the druid Keyleth). Matthew Mercer, the illustrious DM, also chimed into X with a triumphant "SEASON 4, BABE!" This is the reaction I'd have if my D&D campaigns brought in four seasons of animated TV.

Season 4 has not yet been released, but the wait may be longer than for seasons 3 and 2. Both of these seasons were renewed much earlier in production than this one. Being patient? I will try.
