The PS5 Pro is in high demand, and scalpers are finding it difficult to resell units.

The news will make you cry in your cereal. It seems that Sony PlayStation 5 Pro sellers have forgotten the basics of market economics. As a result, the new console isn't selling at the ridiculous markups seen around the launch date of the base model.

Unknown to the average consumer, "scalping a product" is essentially buying early products in bulk as soon as possible, denying them the chance to purchase one at MSRP. The products are then sold on online retailers such as eBay with a huge markup to ensure that the reseller can make a profit while still in control of the stock.

This is exactly what happened with the PS5 in the years 2020 and 2021. The pandemic caused a shortage of chips, which made it extremely difficult for many gamers to get one at the retail price.

Due to a lower demand for the PS5 Pro and the availability of the PS5 Pro at many retailers, resellers are dumping PS5 Pro inventory for the same $699 MSRP that retail charges (via Techspot). Some resellers have been seen selling the PS5 Pro for even less, indicating that this product is a bad one for the market.

The lower demand and increased supply of the new consoles have affected both US and UK resellers, but not across the board. Japan still appears to be in short supply. Reseller markups range between $65 and $100.

Even after listing costs and shipping are taken into account, it is likely that these sellers will just break even, or even lose money in some cases.

The PS5 Pro is a long-awaited console that has been making headlines ever since its release. It's the most powerful console to date. The PS5 Pro boasts a GPU with 60 computes units and 18 Gbps of GDDR6. It's impressive by console standards, but those with modern gaming PCs have nothing to fear.

If you're saving up to buy Sony's newest and greatest, you shouldn't have any trouble finding one at its intended price. Tyler was very impressed with his pre-release version, which finally brings consoles up to 60 fps on high settings thanks to Sony's PSSR scaling solution.

It won't be keeping any of our best gaming PC picks up at night, but still, it's an achievement nonetheless--especially for the right price.

All of us should have access to high-fidelity, smooth gaming. What about those who were hoping to strangle a market in order to make a profit. Better luck next time, I guess.
