The race for the role of Lara Croft on Amazon's live action Tomb Raider series is currently between Sophie Turner from Game of Thrones and Lucy Boynton from Bohemian Rhassody.
Amazon is preparing its own adaptation of the videogame series after Netflix's Tomb Raider. A wishlist of actors who are capable of playing Lara Croft has been compiled in anticipation of this.
According to Deadline, Sophie Turner, who is best known for playing Sansa in Game of Thrones and Lucy Boynton (who played Mary Austin in Bohemian Rhapsody) are the frontrunners for the lead role. Phoebe Waller Bridge, who directed Fleabag, will also direct the series.
Deadline reports that Emma Corrin, who played Deadpool & Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine, and Mackenzie Davis from Terminator: Dark Fate are also in the running. Turner and Boynton will reportedly be the only actors to audition for the role.
Amazon Tomb Raider is a series that we've been hearing about since May. However, it was first rumoured more than a year ago. "With great IP, there are endless possibilities," said Amazon Games vice president Christoph Hartmann. "The richness of the fiction allows both the Tomb Raider Prime Video series and the videogame by Amazon Games to tell different stories about Lara Croft’s adventures. We are honored that Crystal Dynamics has trusted Amazon with this iconic series, and we look forward to where this collaboration will take us.
Recently, there have been a lot of TV adaptations based on videogames. Netflix's Geeked Week brought us news of a new Cyberpunk show, an animated Splinter Cell series, and a Devil May Cry, which will follow a young Dante. Netflix's animated Tomb Raider was not particularly good, but it was fun.
I hope that Amazon's live action project will be more exciting. This has been a passion project for Waller-Bridge who hasn't hid her love of Lara Croft. "Lara Croft is a very important character to me as she is to many others, and I cannot wait to embark on this adventure with bats and all."
