The reveal trailer for this pixel art road trip game is the only thing I've ever seen that made me nostalgic for my first car

Earlier this week Swedish indie developer YCJY Games announced Keep Driving, its upcoming racing game that imagines a road trip across the country in your first vehicle as a side scrolling management RPG. It looks stunning.

Keep Driving is YCJY's most beautiful game yet. Keep Driving is pixel art nostalgia at its best. From the retro beaters that you can customize to the early 2000s backdrops of backroads gas stations and rainy Swedish farms, the game is pixel art perfection. It's almost enough for me to long for my first car with its sudden brake failures and battery deaths. Almost.

While crossing Keep Driving's procedurally-generated roads, you'll be facing its version of turn-based "combat," using the driver skills you've unlocked and whatever snacks, tools, and trinkets you've crammed in your glove compartment to evade speed cameras or navigate sheep flock blockades.

Along the way, you will meet "misfits", "oddballs" and "lost souls". You might be able to provide a temporary transportation for a man who has just quit his job or a bride who is on the run. You'll need to manage your own gas, your car's condition, and energy levels. Let's hope that their destinations are convenient.

Even Keep Driving's UI is excellent. Every menu and meter has an old-fashioned, analog, '80s feel to it. It matches your out-of date ride. If I can imagine the feel of a UI when I touch it with my finger, that's good.

Keep Driving has no release date, but you can add it to your Steam wishlist.
