These Dragon Age: Veilguard players did the impossible by making the qunari look as awesome as in Dragon Age 2.

BioWare continues its tradition of making significant art direction changes in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. We've gone from a grounded, understated medieval fantasy to a gaudy, high fantasy with arcane technology, floating citadels, and more. Dragon Age's massive horned races, the qunari, have suffered the most from these changes.

Dragon Age 2 was the peak of qunari. In Origins, they didn't have a lot of a role and weren't a playable species. Sten was the only playable race, and he looked a lot like a buff guy without horns. But DA2 gave a whole army, who set up shop in Kirkwall and were badasses. Massive, intimidating and covered in warpaint, they had massive horns, giving them a devilish look. This version set them aside from the other races. It was something original.

Since then, qunaris have lost their uniqueness. In Inquisition, playing as a Qunari meant that you looked like a tall human with horns. However, there were no clothing options available to you. The Veilguard maintains this look in large part, but at least this time their wardrobe is more extensive. They don't appear as striking as before, but Dragon Age's most recent aesthetic change has made everything look cartoonish.

There's a character creator that is flexible enough to undo some of the qunari rework. I made one myself and it looks... OK?

The low brows, prominent noses, severe facial features, and deep-set, dark eyes are reminiscent of DA2's qunari. For complexions, Rugged 2, 4, and 5; Weathered 2 and Dark Circles 2 are the best. However, it's almost impossible to make a character look weather-beaten like a qunari. Veilguard's creator of characters is a fan of the beautiful.

The forehead is another thing that you can't replicate. In DA2, the qunari's horns were located just above their brow. Today, they have massive fiveheads and you cannot customize their horn base.

It's also slim pickings in terms of the body. You can at best make a human that looks very buff and is absurdly tall. The DA2 Qunari put bodybuilders in shame, but that's not what you will be doing here.

On the Dragon Age subreddit however, players have been flexing creative muscles and created their own qunari character who actually looks pretty damn close to its DA2 counterparts.

Independent_Flan_76, The_Cavelord and others have taken a similar approach as me. They've focused on chiseled features with lots of eye shadow and mascara. There's a striking resemblance between the Kirkwall Big Lads and these two men. They look at least extremely intimidating.

OwnAd3126 has created a qunari which is a little more unusual. Their creation looks similar to the DA2 versions, but is more statuesque. It has a mystical quality. It's really cool. It's the narrower eyes and pronounced brow that might be the key to replicating the DA2 Qunari look. What I like best about it is the uniqueness of it: a character that would not look out of place tearing through Kirkwall but doesn't appear to be another Arishok grunt.

Grimy-Jack's qunari might be my fave. He looks like he was chiseled out of stone, but at the time, reminds me of Daemon Targaryen, played by Matt Smith, from House of the Dragon. It's his blocky features, thin eyebrows and long hair. Smith has a striking facial structure, so it works. It's a powerful look.

BioWare's best character creator has allowed the qunari to live on in a way, even though they are dead. If you are not happy with the qunari you have, you can change it as much as you like by using the mirror in Varric’s room when you return to the lighthouse. You might find some inspiration from these muscular lads. Good luck!
