This murder mystery farm game will let you accidentally fall in love with the killer. But I might just do that on purpose

If yesterday's Stardew-like horror game wasn't scary enough, don't fret, there's still another one. Grave Seasons, a cute farming simulation, lets you settle down in the countryside and date around. But wait, there's more! You know, just like small-town farmers do every Tuesday.

I was excited by the idea of Grave Seasons, but I had to read the posts from the creative director to find out anything about it. Grave Seasons now has a proper video and a new Steam page with a bit more information.

"You managed to escape jail and make it to Ashenridge but at what cost?" Perfect Garbage, the developer, says on the store page that the backstory is quite different from the usual farm sims of inheriting a property from a relative. "Build your farm, mine and fish, and explore the unknowns in a strange ancient town while romancing secretive local townsfolk." Grave Seasons is a new murder mystery farming simulation RPG. Make sure you stop the supernatural killings before it's too far.

The trailer above is a great example of how to create a horror atmosphere. It shows a shadowy supernatural attack under the streetlamp, and a bloody victim being dragged into the woods. Ashenridge seems to be home to a werebeast killer, not just a normal human murderer. I joked that I thought it was the farm sim version Werewolf and I may have been right.

You might accidentally fall in love with the killer before you even know who it is. Maybe you'll do this on purpose.

Son M, the creative director of the game, had described in some posts that are now deleted that there would be some randomization as to who you would encounter each time you start a new game. The new store page does not mention that element, so it's best to wait and find out if it is still on the table.

Perfect Garbage still refers to Grave Seasons in "early-development" so there is no release date. You can follow it and wishlist on Steam to receive updates instead of trawling clues on social networks. If you want to dig deeper, the studio has posted introduction videos for Grave Seasons characters on TikTok.
